HVAC in Glen Ellyn, IL: furnace & AC repair, replacement, and maintenance

Furnace won't fire, AC died in a heat wave, or you're pricing out a replacement before the old unit quits for good — JR Plumbing Heating & Air is the HVAC company that's actually in Glen Ellyn. Our shop is on N Main St., most calls get same-day service, and Frank has been working on furnaces and air conditioners in these neighborhoods for 20+ years.

Furnace repair in Glen Ellyn

The winter call we get most is a furnace that won't fire on a cold morning. Nine times out of ten it's a flame sensor, a hot-surface igniter, or a condensate clog on a high-efficiency unit — all fixable on the first visit. The other pattern is a furnace that runs but can't keep up: usually a filter that ran too long, a dying blower motor, or a unit past its 15-year mark losing capacity. We diagnose for a flat fee, quote in writing before any work, and credit the diagnostic toward the repair.

Furnace replacement and new installations

When a repair stops making financial sense, we install Carrier, Lennox, Trane, Goodman, and Rheem furnaces — 80% AFUE where budget or venting demands it, 95%+ condensing units where the gas savings justify the cost. Every install is sized to the actual house with a load calculation, not copied off the old unit's sticker. Village of Glen Ellyn permit, final inspection, and manufacturer warranty registration are all handled by us.

AC repair, installation, and replacement

Glen Ellyn summers are humid, and central air that limps through July is miserable. We handle AC diagnostics and repair — capacitors, contactors, fan motors, refrigerant leaks — plus full system replacement when the math says so. If your system still runs on R-22, a failed compressor usually settles the repair-or-replace question on its own. Spring tune-ups (coil cleaning, refrigerant pressures, amp draws) catch most failures before the first heat wave.

Heat pumps and ductless mini splits

Cold-climate heat pumps now handle Chicago winters credibly, and pairing one with a gas furnace as a dual-fuel setup is often the cheapest way to heat a west-suburban home. Ductless mini splits solve the rooms your ductwork never reached — attic conversions, additions, sunrooms, the office over the garage. We size, install, service, and replace both.

HVAC maintenance and seasonal tune-ups

Two visits a year keep equipment alive: a fall furnace tune-up (burners, combustion and CO testing, flame sensor, filter, safety circuit) and a spring AC tune-up (coils, refrigerant, electrical). An hour each. If something is wearing out, you find out in October — not at 11 p.m. in January.

A local company that knows Glen Ellyn homes

We're headquartered on N Main St., so this isn't a territory on a franchise map — it's home. Glen Ellyn's housing stock runs from 1920s bungalows near downtown and the Metra station out to newer builds toward Stacy's Corners, and each era has its own quirks: undersized returns, furnaces wedged into closets, ductwork that was an afterthought. We've worked in all of them. And because heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical are all in-house, the "furnace repair" that turns out to be a gas line or wiring problem doesn't need a second contractor.

Glen Ellyn HVAC questions, answered

How much does furnace repair cost in Glen Ellyn?
Most furnace repairs in Glen Ellyn land between $175 and $650 depending on the part. A flame sensor or igniter is at the low end; an inducer motor or control board is higher. We diagnose for a flat fee, give you a written number before touching anything, and apply the diagnostic fee to the repair if you go ahead.
Do you offer same-day HVAC service in Glen Ellyn?
Usually, yes. We're based on N Main St., so Glen Ellyn calls don't sit in a regional dispatch queue. No-heat calls in winter and no-cooling calls during heat waves get priority. Call 630-545-2619 and we'll tell you honestly when we can be there.
Should I repair or replace my air conditioner?
Rule of thumb: if the AC is 12+ years old and the repair quote crosses about half the cost of a new unit, replacement usually wins on total cost — especially since older R-22 systems can't be recharged economically. We'll put both numbers in front of you, repair and replace, and let you decide. No commission pressure.
How often should HVAC equipment be serviced?
Twice a year: furnace tune-up in the fall, AC tune-up in the spring. A proper tune-up covers burner cleaning, combustion and CO testing, refrigerant pressures, coil condition, blower amp draw, and filter replacement. Annual service also keeps most manufacturer warranties valid.
Do you install heat pumps and mini splits in Glen Ellyn?
Yes. Cold-climate heat pumps have gotten good enough for Chicago winters, and ductless mini splits solve the rooms ductwork never reached — attic conversions, additions, sunrooms, garages. We size the equipment for the actual space and handle the Village of Glen Ellyn permit when one is required.
Do you pull Village of Glen Ellyn permits for HVAC work?
Yes. Furnace and AC replacements in Glen Ellyn typically require a village permit and final inspection. We file the paperwork and schedule the inspection ourselves — it's included, not an upsell.
What brands do you install and service?
We service every residential brand and install Carrier, Lennox, Trane, Goodman, and Rheem. We size correctly for the home instead of copying the spec off the old unit, which was probably oversized when it went in.
Do you serve the towns around Glen Ellyn too?
Yes — Wheaton, Lombard, Carol Stream, Winfield, Naperville, Downers Grove, and Elmhurst. Glen Ellyn is home base, so anything inside the village or the 60137/60138 zips is the fastest to reach.

Twice now JR Plumbing has got me out of a jamb in emergency situations. I had a collapsed sewer line under my basement floor and they were able to identify the problem and repair it quickly (and patch over the foundation floor). Would recommend as they are trustworthy and reasonably priced.

I broke my toilet’s compression valve and had to turn off the water to the entire house. I called JR Plumbing and they were so kind to fit me into their busy schedule the same day. Frank and his team are exactly the kind of folks you want showing up.

The owner, Frank and his colleague, Alex came out to install a sink, garbage disposal, and vent hood. Also, they replaced a leaky outdoor spigot and a leaky faucet. They are very easy to work with. I highly recommend them for their great work and fair pricing.
