Bathroom, kitchen, and basement remodeling in Glen Ellyn, IL

Most bathroom and basement remodels turn into nightmares because the plumbing and electrical contractors blame the GC, the GC blames the supplier, and the homeowner ends up project-managing four trades with separate insurance certificates. We solve that by doing the plumbing and electrical in-house, with one number, one license, one schedule. Bathroom, kitchen, and basement remodels across Glen Ellyn and the west suburbs.

You shouldn't need to manage four trades and a permit office to put a new vanity in your bathroom. JR Plumbing Heating & Air handles the plumbing and electrical scope of bath, kitchen, and basement remodels in-house and partners with trusted local trades for drywall, tile, and finish carpentry. You have one point of contact and one written estimate, not a Rolodex.

Bathroom remodeling

The bathroom calls we get most often are 1980s and 1990s primary bathrooms with a builder-grade tub, a single sink vanity, and tile that lost its grout battle ten years ago. We re-plumb the supply and drain (PEX or copper, your call), upgrade the vent stack if it's undersized, install the new tub or shower pan with proper waterproofing (Schluter Kerdi or comparable membrane), re-wire the lighting to a humidity-rated exhaust fan, add GFCI outlets where they belong, and handle the Village of Glen Ellyn permit. We'll bring in a tile finisher and drywall crew if you want a turnkey project, or just do the mechanicals if you have a designer already lined up.

Kitchen remodeling

Kitchens are where the trades pile up. Plumbing for sink, dishwasher, pot filler, ice maker, and sometimes a coffee bar. Electrical for the induction range circuit, microwave, garbage disposal, under-cabinet lighting, and pendants over the island. Gas for the range if you're not going induction. We handle all of that. Most kitchen remodels in Glen Ellyn run 4 to 8 weeks total. We'll lay out a schedule that sequences the mechanicals before the cabinet install so you're not tearing out finished work because the rough-in wasn't right.

Basement remodeling

Basements are why most homes need this kind of contractor in the first place. You want a finished space, but you have a sump pump, an ejector pit (if you're adding a bathroom), a furnace, a water heater, and a panel down there, all of which need to stay accessible. We frame around the mechanicals, add the bathroom rough-in if the budget supports it, run new lighting circuits and outlets to code, and coordinate the drywall and flooring. Egress windows handled if your finish includes a bedroom.

Permits and inspections

The Village of Glen Ellyn requires permits for almost any remodel that moves plumbing or electrical. We pull the permits, schedule rough-in and final inspections, and meet the inspector on-site. You don't go to village hall.

Remodeling — Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Glen Ellyn?
Costs vary by scope and finishes. A standard guest bathroom remodel (tub, single vanity, toilet, tile, paint) is one tier. Primary bathroom remodels with a walk-in shower, double vanity, and higher-end finishes are another. We give written estimates broken out by trade so you can see exactly where the money goes. Call us with what you are thinking and we will quote it.
How long does a kitchen remodel take?
A standard kitchen remodel in a Glen Ellyn home runs 4 to 8 weeks from demo to final inspection. The pacing is: one week demo, one week rough mechanicals, one week drywall and paint, one week cabinets, one to two weeks counters and tile, one week finish and final. Custom counters add two to three weeks lead time.
Do I need a designer for a remodel?
For a straight functional remodel (same layout, better finishes), no. We can handle it directly. For layout changes, custom millwork, or higher-end finish work, a designer pays for themselves by catching decisions early. We work with designers homeowners bring in, and we can recommend two or three good local options if needed.
Do you handle permits with the Village of Glen Ellyn?
Yes. Every plumbing or electrical remodel scope we do gets permitted properly with the Village. We submit drawings, pull the permit, schedule rough-in inspection, and meet the inspector. Final inspection is part of the project handoff.
Will I have water and power during the remodel?
Yes. We stage the work so the rest of the house stays functional. Bathroom remodels can sometimes take the primary bath offline for 3 to 5 days during fixture install, but you will always have water and power to the rest of the house. We tell you the down-days in advance.

Twice now JR Plumbing has got me out of a jamb in emergency situations. I had a collapsed sewer line under my basement floor and they were able to identify the problem and repair it quickly (and patch over the foundation floor). Would recommend as they are trustworthy and reasonably priced.

I broke my toilet’s compression valve and had to turn off the water to the entire house. I called JR Plumbing and they were so kind to fit me into their busy schedule the same day. Frank and his team are exactly the kind of folks you want showing up.

The owner, Frank and his colleague, Alex came out to install a sink, garbage disposal, and vent hood. Also, they replaced a leaky outdoor spigot and a leaky faucet. They are very easy to work with. I highly recommend them for their great work and fair pricing.
